VMware

Add this to /etc/fstab
linproc /compat/linux/proc linprocfs rw 0 0

Then run
mount /compat/linux/proc

Also add this to /etc/sysctl.conf
# VMware
kern.ipc.shm_allow_removed=1

...and/or reboot - if you don't run: sysctl kern.ipc.shm_allow_removed=1

Now compile vmware
cd /usr/ports/emulators/vmware3
make

When network configuration is up, do the following
1) Do you want to configure vmnet interface?                        Yes
2) Do you want to use netgraph bridging?                            No
3) What will the IP address of your host on your private network?   10.0.0.11
4) What will be the netmask of your private network?                255.255.255.0

And install it
make install

Instead of rebooting, you can manually run
/usr/X11R6/etc/rc.d/001.vmware.sh

...which reads the config from /usr/X11R6/etc/vmware/config

Check loaded kernel modules. It should look something like:
linux.ko
rtc.ko
vmnet.ko
vmmon_up.ko
if_tap.ko
linprocfs.ko

Start vmware from a shell
vmware &

Use the wizard to configure any OS.<br>
When network configuration is up, use the following settings:
IP address: 10.0.0.12
Netmask   : 255.255.255.0
Gateway   : 10.0.0.11
DNS server: Use from host OS /etc/resolv.conf


Install VMware-Tools from within the installed and running guest OS.
